Spotlight: Vyrus

THIS is DRAG - SPOTLIGHT 032 / MAY 2026
Vyrus
Curated by Kevin Blondin

Vyrus isn’t here to make you comfortable… They’re here to infect you. With an eerie, electric performance style that blends grotesque visuals with raw emotional storytelling, this Windsor-based artist is redefining what drag can look like, feel like, and mean. From maritime roots in Canso, Nova Scotia to stages across Southwestern Ontario, Vyrus delivers performances that linger long after the lights go down… And trust us, there’s no antidote.

Grotesque Glam Rising

Infecting the Scene with Purpose

At just 23 years old and only two years into their drag journey, Vyrus is already carving out a lane that’s impossible to ignore. Formerly known as Belle Vyra, the name “Vyrus” started as a joke… A nod to “infecting” the Windsor scene — but has since evolved into something far more personal.

As a transmasc nonbinary performer, Vyrus uses drag as a way to explore and express their relationship with femininity, not as something polished or expected, but as something complex, messy, and real.

Describing their drag as energetic, eerie, and alluring, Vyrus thrives in the space where beauty meets discomfort. Their aesthetic leans into what they jokingly call “mold,” but more accurately lives in the realm of grotesque glamour, a striking blend of horror, femininity, and emotional vulnerability.

“It’s okay to be disgusted by your femininity,” they explain.
“Embrace it. Make it art.”

That philosophy runs through everything they do.

Because I’m what? SICKENING!
— Vyrus

From insects, blood, and decay to themes of mental health, medical trauma, and rage, Vyrus doesn’t shy away from difficult topics. Instead, they confront them head-on, using performance as both release and connection. It’s drag that challenges, provokes, and, for many, heals.

Their inspiration comes not from distant icons, but from community. Local artists like Angelina Lepore, Willy Weepers, and Kunty the Klown helped shape their understanding of disability in drag and what’s possible when you take up space authentically.

And that sense of community is everything.

Whether it’s messages from nonbinary fans or emotional reactions to deeply personal performances, like a poem written for their partner that left audiences in tears, Vyrus measures success not just in stages, but in impact.

Still, the milestones are stacking up. From performing at Michigan’s Drag Drive to Halifax Pride, Vyrus is already taking their art beyond borders, and they’re just getting started.

On stage, expect chaos, contortion, and captivating energy. Off stage? A thoughtful artist who genuinely values every connection they make.

Their message is clear:

Feel everything. Be everything. Hide nothing.

With a growing list of performances across Windsor and beyond, including a packed lineup of May shows, Vyrus is only gaining momentum. But beyond the bookings and the buzz, their mission stays the same: to create space for people to feel seen, understood, and unapologetically themselves. In a world that often asks people to tone it down, Vyrus is turning everything up… nd daring you to do the same.
