Spotlight: CHIMAERA
THIS is DRAG - SPOTLIGHT 033 / June 2026
CHIMAERA
Curated by Kevin Blondin
From academic stages to international design spaces, CHIMAERA is building a world entirely her own. The Hamilton-based performer, known as the “Mediterranean Mythic”, has already made waves with a TEDx Talk advocating for drag as legitimate labour, alongside features in major media and growing recognition across both creative and academic spheres. Now, as she continues her work with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and prepares to present on queer entrepreneurship at the national level, CHIMAERA is proving that drag exists far beyond the stage.
Blending mythology, culture, and couture, her artistry is intentional, powerful, and deeply personal—crafted from a lifetime of inspiration and identity.
Mythic By Design
Where fashion, fantasy, and identity collide in intentional artistry
There’s something unmistakably deliberate about CHIMAERA. Every look, every performance, every detail feels considered—because it is.
Inspired by the mythical creature she’s named after, CHIMAERA is a fusion of influences: academia, fantasy, fashion, and heritage. “A chimaera is one being made of many parts,” she explains. “That’s exactly who I am.” With Italian, Eastern Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern roots, her drag becomes a living homage, layered with cultural references, mythological imagery, and a touch of celestial magic.
Her journey into drag began in Guelph during her university years, but it has since evolved into something far greater than performance. In just four years, she has carved out a space not only as a performer, but as a designer, speaker, and advocate. Her TEDx Talk, which explored drag as a legitimate form of employment, marked a turning point—not just in her career, but in how her work intersects with the broader world.
“Drag isn’t just performance,” she says. “It’s worldbuilding. It’s craftsmanship. It’s identity.”
That philosophy is evident in her aesthetic: mythic, intentional, and unapologetically fashion-forward. Whether drawing from ancient imagery, creature aesthetics, or the occult, CHIMAERA constructs each look with purpose. Her drag is less about transformation and more about expansion, becoming a fuller, more realized version of herself.
“Everything that I am already exists within me. My artistry is the canvas that I use to create my reality. ”
Beyond the visuals, her work is rooted in something deeper: legacy. Her grandparents, who immigrated in search of a better life, remain her greatest inspiration. From her grandmother’s tailoring to her grandfather’s resilience, their influence is stitched into every creation. “I honour them in everything I do,” she shares. “They’re always with me.”
That sense of purpose carries into her message. CHIMAERA is passionate about redefining how drag is perceived, not as novelty or accessory, but as real work, real artistry, and real contribution. Through her performances, designs, and advocacy, she challenges audiences to rethink what drag can be.
And while her future remains open-ended, one thing is certain: wherever she goes, CHIMAERA will continue to evolve, create, and make waves.
As CHIMAERA continues to expand her influence beyond the stage, her upcoming work with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce marks yet another step in bridging drag, business, and advocacy. With a national presentation on queer entrepreneurship on the horizon, her impact is only just beginning.
