Spotlight: ANNE ALIEN
THIS is DRAG - SPOTLIGHT 034 / July 2026
ANNE ALIEN
Curated by Kevin Blondin
Toronto’s drag scene is no stranger to boundary-pushers—but ANNE ALIEN exists in a universe entirely their own. A self-described “Drag Thing” with three fully realized personas, they’ve spent the past seven years crafting a world where horror, fantasy, and identity collide in bold, unexpected ways.
From their standout appearance as a featured artist at the Austin International Drag Festival to lighting up Toronto with a billboard for OUTLOUD 2023, ANNE ALIEN continues to expand their orbit. And with their ongoing monthly show TRIPLE THREAT at Three Dollar Bill Parkdale, where audiences vote and the performers deliver, they’re not just part of the scene… they’re actively reshaping it.
Beyond Drag Binary
A genre-bending “Drag Thing” redefining performance, persona, and possibility
To understand ANNE ALIEN is to let go of expectation.
They aren’t just a drag performer—they’re three. ANNE ALIEN, the otherworldly “Fae-lien.” P∅lterguy, the ghostly drag king. And Virginia Sacrifice, the final girl. Each persona draws from classic horror tropes, reimagined through a queer, trans lens that transforms “otherness” into something powerful.
“I think we as queer and trans people experience feeling ‘alien,’” they explain. “My drag speaks to that.”
That sense of multiplicity is what makes ANNE ALIEN’s artistry so compelling. Their work pulls from everywhere, video games, comic books, folklore, and shock art, blending references into something entirely their own. The result? A performance style that feels as unpredictable as it is intentional. Eclectic. Electric. Unapologetic.
Visually, their aesthetic leans into what they call an “anime/video game queer-coded villain”—bold, stylized, and slightly unsettling. There’s often a signature detail tying it all together: a flower nose, a soft yet surreal motif that contrasts with the chaos of their characters.
But beneath the spectacle lies something deeper: storytelling.
“Drag is storytelling,” they say simply—and it’s clear that every performance is built with that in mind. Whether it’s absurdity, horror, or humor, ANNE ALIEN uses narrative as a tool to challenge audiences, disrupt expectations, and push against the status quo.
That commitment to disruption is at the core of their message: go against the grain. Be strange. Be loud about it.
“Neither King nor Queen, but a secret Third Thing.”
Their journey has already taken them far, from Toronto stages to international festivals like AIDF, where performing alongside and connecting with admired artists became a defining moment. But even as their reach grows, they remain deeply rooted in community.
They’re also vocal about the need for greater visibility and support for drag kings, things, and marginalized performers—encouraging audiences and producers alike to actively uplift BIPOC and trans artists.
Because for ANNE ALIEN, drag isn’t just performance—it’s movement.
As ANNE ALIEN continues to evolve across personas, platforms, and possibilities, one thing remains certain: they’re not here to fit into drag… they’re here to expand it.
Catch them monthly at TRIPLE THREAT at Three Dollar Bill Parkdale, where the audience helps shape the show in real time, or follow their journey online for upcoming performances and appearances.
