Spotlight: Bae B. Butcher

THIS is DRAG - SPOTLIGHT 031 / APRIL 2026
Bae B. Butcher
Curated by Kevin Blondin

Bae B. Butcher is what happens when a B-rated horror flick comes to life — sex, camp, creep, and just enough chaos to keep you on edge. A celebrated drag king from Hamilton’s “Steeltown,” Bae has carved out a lane that is unapologetically political, wildly creative, and impossible to ignore. From international stages to local alternative drag shows, Bae B. Butcher isn’t just performing — he’s pushing boundaries, challenging norms, and proving that drag has no rules.

The Butcher Cometh

Horror, Humor, and Radical Expression

Self-described as a “cartoony camp creep,” Bae B. Butcher has spent the last five years building a drag persona that is equal parts absurd, unsettling, and deeply intentional. The lore? He’s 119 years old — turning 120 this year — and has been creeping the world ever since.

But behind the humor and horror is a name rooted in something real. Bae began drag during the rise of conversations around overturning Roe v. Wade. As someone whose life was directly impacted by access to abortion, he made a conscious choice to center that experience in his identity. As he puts it:

“Hello my name is Bae B. Butcher, and you know why they call me that? Because we are pro-choice.”

That blend of camp and conviction defines his work.

Based in Hamilton, Bae has performed across Ontario and internationally, earning the title of Ontario Drag King of the Year (2023) at the Red Gala Awards. He’s hosted all-king drag shows across cities like London, Toronto, and Hamilton, creating space and visibility for kings across the province. Offstage, he’s also an advocate — speaking on trans rights at major events including Trans Day of Remembrance and working within the Imperial Court system.

I’ll give you wet nightmares.
— Bae B. Butcher

His aesthetic?
“The gender-bending sleep paralysis demon sitting at the end of your bed.”

It’s bright, animated, and chaotic — layered with darker themes of trauma, mental illness, and survival. Bae leans into gallows humor, pushing audiences right to the edge while still pulling them in. It’s discomfort with intention, horror with heart.

Inspired by everything from anime to artists like Landon Cider — and yes, even Joe Exotic — Bae’s drag exists at the intersection of parody, performance, and provocation. His must-have tool? A trusty NYX Epic Liner, which he goes through faster than underwear.

One of his most unforgettable moments came overseas, performing in Melbourne, Australia. The room fell completely silent as he took the stage — stunned, captivated — before erupting into applause. For Bae, it was proof that alternative drag doesn’t just belong — it resonates.

At its core, his message is simple:

There are no rules in drag.

And Bae B. Butcher is here to break every single one.

Whether he’s haunting the stage, making audiences laugh, or challenging them to think deeper, Bae B. Butcher is redefining what drag can be — one monstrous performance at a time. With a major 120th birthday celebration planned for May 23rd and more chaos on the horizon, one thing is certain: wherever Bae goes next, the rules won’t follow.
