From the lab to the dance floor, Molly Kewl is a drag performer like no other — part scientist, part showgirl, and full-time pop culture chemist. Known for her experimental style, noodle wigs, and campy storytelling, Molly has been mixing art, humor, and heart since officially stomping into Toronto’s drag scene in 2018.
Now based in her hometown of Guelph, Ontario, Molly is turning up the volume once again. With her sights set on launching her own production company, Metamorphosis Events, in early 2026, and two major shows coming up this November — a Drag Science Show (Nov 8) and a drag/rave fusion event (Nov 14) — this “Bill Nye of drag” is proving that science and sequins really do mix.
The Molly Kewl Formula
The Origin Story
Before drag came calling, Molly dreamed of being a DJ — mixing beats like a mad scientist surrounded by bubbling beakers and neon lights. The name Molly Kewl was born from that fantasy, later reimagined when she discovered it also belonged to a Magic School Bus character. “Perfect,” she laughed. “I’ll just spell it different!”
Inspiration and Influence
Heavily inspired by 90s and early 2000s girl groups, K-pop icons, and hyperpop innovators like SOPHIE and Charli XCX, Molly’s drag is “hairy, cathartic, and experimental pop.” She describes herself as “a pansexual’s dream — gender fluid, thrifty, streetwise, and just the right amount of unhinged.”
Pop Meets Purpose
Molly’s biggest artistic mission? To make people feel something. “I love dressing up and making people uncomfortable at first — then winning them over by the end of my performance,” she says. “I wanna scare people, then bring them in for a hug.”
Her favorite part of drag is that it allows her to channel all her passions — film, dance, science, and comedy — into a single art form. And with her signature humor, she calls herself “the smartest dumbass you’ll ever meet.”
Aesthetic & Motifs
Every Molly look is a cartoon come to life — exaggerated colors, chaotic wigs, and maximalist accessories that all somehow make perfect sense. “Hair noodles helped me stand out,” she says. “It’s said in pop culture that a defining hairstyle helps people remember you. For me, that’s the noodles.”
Recurring motifs in her art include clownery, self-expression, comedic reveals, and gender play. “I don’t like to adhere to expectations,” Molly insists. “Especially those placed on women — or drag queens.”
“The Spice Girls turned me gay, period.”
Inspiration & Icons
Her creative heroes range from Lady Gaga and Charli XCX to SOPHIE and Andy Warhol. “They all blur the lines between pop, art, and identity — and that’s exactly what I want to do in drag.”
Community & Connection
Molly’s drag family stretches across Guelph, Hamilton, and Toronto — including Kara Melle, Seyoncé Knows, Grim Pierce, Anne Alien, Tammy the Brown, Chip Fillet, Nox Domina, and Venus Devil. “They’ve been my support system, my collaborators, and my chosen family,” she shares.
The Heart Behind the Humor
Molly’s drag message is simple: be honest, grateful, and kind.
“Love your body, garnish it, and don’t hide it,” she says. “A simple smile can make someone’s day.”
She recalls performing at all-ages Pride events as some of her most cherished memories — meeting queer kids and families filled with joy and hope. “It’s wild to see a new generation growing up with so much visibility and knowledge,” she says. “It’s what our elders fought for.”
