Spotlight: Edie Violet
THIS is DRAG - SPOTLIGHT 023 / AUGUST 2025
Edie Violet
Curated by Kevin Blondin
For August’s Spotlight on THISisDRAG.com, we find ourselves in the luxurious, lavender-scented world of Edie Violet, a vintage-obsessed drag artist whose look says “old money” but whose heart is all heart. With roots in both Woodstock and London, Ontario, Edie blends the glamour of old Hollywood with a playful wink and a penchant for thoughtful detail. She’s a self-made costume designer, an aficionado of interior style, and a queen who takes her marmalade toast seriously.
Catch her live in Windsor on Sunday, August 10th at Windsor-Essex Pride Fest’s Pride Day! at Lanspeary Park, where she'll join a vibrant lineup of drag performers following the region’s most fabulous Pride Parade. Whether she’s channeling Edith Head or twirling to Carmen McRae, Edie Violet is a reminder that sometimes the boldest move is simply to be classic.
Elegance in Bloom
“Drag is a character that’s more glamorous, more carefree, and more confident than I am in real life.”

What’s in a name?
When it comes to naming a queen, Edie Violet didn’t just pull from one place—she created a mosaic of inspirations that are as timeless as they are iconic. From Edith Head to Edie Sedgwick, she wanted something that felt vintage, flirtatious, and feminine. The “Violet” came from the flower crown she wore during her first-ever performance and as a nod to fashion legend Violet Chachki.
“The name needed to feel classic but cute,” Edie says. “Like a Hollywood starlet with a closet full of secrets and satin gloves.”
The Glamour Blueprint
Describing her aesthetic as “classic vintage glamour with a bit of an edge”, Edie envisions herself as a duchess turned mob wife—refined but never boring, always ready to serve a look that speaks volumes without saying a word. Think pearls, perfume, and pressed powder—with a switchblade in her garter.
She’s a costume designer by trade and proudly self-taught. “Supporting myself through what I create is something I’m really proud of,” she says, reflecting on the journey that’s taken her from sewing machines to spotlight.
Her drag is often inspired by Old Hollywood: the structured silhouettes, the sharp tailoring, the fantasy of being larger than life. She's not afraid to add a little cheekiness to her class, though: “I love creating a character who’s just a little more carefree and confident than I am in real life.”

Style + Sisterhood
She’s got a soft spot for drag sisters Nicki Nastasia and Zsa Zsa, both of whom have shown her love and support since her earliest drag days. When it comes to Drag Race queens, she gushes over Violet Chachki for her fashion and Katya for her energy and chaos. (Relatable.)
A Message in the Mirror
So what does Edie want people to take from her drag?
“To have fun, not take yourself too seriously, and not hide your true personality. Those are things I tell myself all the time, so if I can inspire that in others, I’m happy.”
She sees drag as a kind of joyful escapism—a way to channel confidence, beauty, and freedom in a world that sometimes asks too much. And let’s be honest: If you’re going to escape reality, why not do it in pearls, a corset, and a perfectly structured vintage suit?
